Friendships should never be taken for granted.

The ups and downs of high school forged an unbreakable bond between Vanessa and Nichole. Summer’s over and Vanessa is preparing for life at the local liberal arts college. Without her best friend by her side, Vanessa starts to chart her own path. Navigating new friendships and relationships proves easier said than done.

Nichole got kicked out of her mother’s house, lives with strangers in a sketchy neighborhood and commutes across town for her job in retail. She doesn’t always make the right choices and she has only herself to blame when things go wrong.

Something’s gotta give. Who will make the first move – or will fate intervene to remind each of them of the importance of their bond.

Letting go of anger is life’s greatest challenge.

Vanessa hasn’t been the same since her father’s death. A hero until the end, he died saving a restaurant owner’s son from a burning building. Nessa blames the boy, but her best friend Nichole thinks it’s time to let go of the past. In a last ditch effort to break Nessa’s obsession, Nichole hopes signing up for the local food challenge will bust her out of her shell. A single choice defines the road ahead for Nessa. Doing the right thing isn’t easy, but living with the consequences of doing nothing might be worse.

All About the Donuts – Future Donuts – Seize the Donut – Pre-order now!

Pre-Order now!

Friday June 2nd, 2017 I plan to publish For the Love of Donuts Book 2 – Seize the Donut! This book will feature the stories of both Nichole and Vanessa as they start their lives beyond high school! This book will be a New Adult Contemporary Fiction book with POV from both Nichole and Vanessa and so much drama! Haven’t read the first book? No problem! This book is standalone, but if you want to read the first book (get it here)- it will be on sale for $2.99 until June 2nd.

This story, unlike the first book, follows the two girls as two dueling POV characters and how their stories intersect and diverge. They are part of each other’s stories, but not the main focus.

Vanessa wants to be independent from her friend. She wants to make new friends and fit in and leave her past behind, but it still comes back to her in the form of her PTSD. Hiding behind her new self will cause issues with her new friends, her family, and her new boyfriend.

Nichole wants to go back in time to when she was best friends with Vanessa and life wasn’t so hard! She ends up losing her housing, her car, her job, and some of her sanity. After meeting some good people she is able to start picking herself back up again (without Vanessa!) Nichole is the independent one, until she gets in over her head again.

Other major characters – Bruce from book one is back as the hot senior at the college Vanessa attends. He works at the local Starbucks and is studying psychology. He takes an interest in Nichole. Jax is the hot bad boy who has a thing for Vanessa, but he’s no good for her. Vanessa’s two new friends – Hazel and Zelda are the embodiment of New College (a real public liberal arts college in Florida). New College features prominently, as do some other local businesses in the Sarasota area.

Here’s a little tease into book 2!

Seize the Donut is a young adult/new adult novel about two best friends, life after high school, and dealing with adult responsibilities. The more that Vanessa and Nichole leave behind their friendship, the more that their lives seem to fall apart because friendships shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Pre-order will be available soon!

I’m very excited about this book and to share it with you!

Here’s a little tease into book 2!

Their friendship has been the one unbreakable thing, the one certainty in their lives, but Nichole Adams and Vanessa Smith are developing into their own personas. The glimpse into who they are in Donuts in an Empty Field becomes glaringly obvious as they figure out what they want out of life during the college years.

Vanessa has never had many friends in her life, but Nichole is too preoccupied, and Nessa has to find her own way through through the whirlwind that is her college life. She has a job, she has school, she has social activities, but she can’t seem to find the right boyfriend.

Nichole is jealous of Vanessa’s ease of everything in the real world. Nessa has no trouble with jobs, money, school, or getting and going places. Nichole, on the other hand, was preemptively kicked out of her mom’s house after graduating high school and has been floundering ever since. The only thing she has easy in her life is flirting and finding a boyfriend, or at least a guy that will let her crash at his house.

I’m almost finished with this round of editing/plot restructuring and will be looking for beta readers soon so message me if you’re interested in reading Seize the Donut!

Donut Goals and the Future of Donuts

Hi readers! I hope you’re all enjoying Donuts in an Empty Field. I wrote the sequel during NaNoWriMo 2015 and have been working on editing it into shape this year! My plan is to release the second book in the For the Love of Donuts Books on National Donut Day 2017, June 2nd.

If you haven’t snagged a copy of Book 1, you can get your copy HERE.

Here’s a snippet from chapter one:

Nichole sighed and sagged into her twin bed, leaning against the pallid gray walls that probably used to be a cheery off-white decades ago. The hinges on the bed creaked under her. Nichole set her bulky laptop on her lap and powered it up, drumming her fingers on the side as she waited. She sighed again when the blinking light came on indicating her Wi-Fi was not connected again. She wiped perspiration off her forehead. When would summer finally end?

Thumping the laptop with a fist, Nichole growled in frustration. Nothing ever worked and everything that did was always breaking. She pulled out her phone. In a world of smartphones, her downgrade to a flip was more than embarrassing. It had a poor connection to the internet at best and right now was not connected at all.

Sighing again, Nichole threw her laptop to the side, letting it settle onto her ruffled Power Ranger’s blankets and hopped off the bed and onto the dingy carpet. She grabbed the laptop and walked out of her small room, hardly larger than a walk-in closet.

Nichole stepped into the living room to check the Wi-Fi router, but all three of her roommates were sitting on the couches and they stared at her as she entered the spacious living area. Nichole’s arms sagged. Oh shit, what day was it?

All three roommates simultaneously crossed their arms over their chests and sat up straighter.
