Most popular US donut: glazed (cake donut)

What I tried:

Glazed, lemon poppy seed, maple bar, French toast, peppermint, chocolate raspberry

~$13.40

What to expect:

This corner store is next to easy street parking and has high ceilings and a high counter. The donuts are displayed like a fancy catering event’s dessert table. All the donuts are beautifully frosted and not heavy in their cake filling.

My favorite:

I liked the peppermint the best, but I think I would have liked any donut with their chocolate cake interior. The frosting is perfectly balanced with the amount of cake and isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, but fully flavored.

NaNo November 16: It’s Over, Did I Win?

winner

A few final November statistics for you!

  • There are 19 business days in November which equals 152 total working hours in an average 9-5 job. I worked 213.5 hours in November between my two jobs (and that’s 26.2 8-hour days!)
  • I wrote 20 days out of the month
  • I read 3 books (Krampus audiobook, Beauty and the Bridesmaid eBook, and Vegan Teenage Zombie Huntress print book). I’m still in the middle of reading Ishmael print book, The Seeker’s Keys Ebook, and Second Glance audiobook)
  • I had 5 events, 4 were author-related sales events (Small Business Saturday with the Neverending Bookshop, Oddmall in Everett which was 2 days, Bard & Starlet with FreeValley Publishing, and a one day popup Oddmall show)
  • I went to 10 write-ins

Here is page one of the first draft!

Small Business Saturday and a Bout of Food Poisoning at 5AM

I started the day strong at St. James Espresso in Kirkland with the Elsewhere NaNoWriMo meetup and had a pecan sticky bun (but don’t worry I didn’t eat the pecans, just the good part). I got a couple thousand words in!

20161126_1smallbusinesssaturday-2

Off to the Small Business Saturday event at the Neverending Bookshop in Bothell for a joint author event with debut author Lori Summerville and her debut fantasy novel, “Fall Through.”

Then Paul took us out to lunch across the street at the lovely Alexa’s Cafe! I’d never been and couldn’t help but get one of their peculiar looking cinnamon rolls and it was THE BEST EVER! My curry chicken sandwich on a croissant was also quite delicious.

20161126_1smallbusinesssaturday-6

On the way to Paul’s gig at Tab’s in Kenmore, I stopped in at my favorite local donut shop, Daddy’s and tried out one of the seasonal combos!

After eating leftover Thai food and two snacks and two drinks at Tab’s I finished the day with mild food poisoning at 5AM…

NaNo November 16: Week Three Update – Still Behind, Still Writing

This time last year I was already a winner of NaNoWriMo. I had it together. I had time. I had plot. I had motivation. I had friends. I have a lot of those this year, but I lack some essentials: like time and good plot to work with. At this point in my novel (at 30,500) my characters are saying anything that comes to mind and they are meandering all over the place! I’m consistently 5k or more behind but I have hopes of finishing strong over the Holidays and my first weekend that isn’t jam-packed with events.

Carry on my writers! Whether win or lose, at least you will be focusing on writing!

I’m also attempting to revise a short story for an anthology, getting one to two short stories together for a December 1 deadline, and keeping the rest of my life together!

Happy Turkey day in advance!

NaNo November: Week One Update – I don’t have time for this…

What a week this has been. I have, in no particular order:

  • Spilled milk all over my dress pants and cried
  • Worn a shirt inside out for half the day
  • Worked 60 hours
  • Backstaged a local show (Wednesday/Friday rehearsal and Saturday performance)
  • Stayed up past midnight for Hallonanoween in my new onesie pajamas
  • Written over 12k words in my Nano novel
  • Worked every day and woke up early every day
  • Spent approximately 1o hours in traffic
  • Went to 3 write ins (opening, Issy writers, St. James, and SnoValley Coffee)
  • Lost 2 lbs
  • Lost it at a Costco
  • Gotten a flat tire
  • Had too much caffeine
  • Cursed like a sailor
  • Got behind and caught up
  • Felt like a failure
  • Felt like a success
  • Was happy
  • Was sad
  • Was frustrated
  • Hopeful that next week will be less insane

Indie Author Day After and Book Haul!!

20161008_095809

Indie Author Day was such fun, though it was the first year that KCLS participated and we still need to spread the word! Myself and 24 other authors camped out in the KCLS service center building and promoted Indies!

20161008_110354

Sunday I went out to Geek Girl Con in Seattle, debuting my new Olive costume (can you guess what it’s from?)

I met an author (Lish McBride) and got my hair done by Vain!

Review criteria:

Most popular donut at the shop: NA
Signature shop donut: NA
Most popular US donut: glazed
2nd most popular US donut: Boston crème
Donut Hole: Glazed $2.00/doz

What I tried:

Glazed Twist, Boston Creme, Donut Holes

$4.15 total

What to expect:

the glazed donut holes looked exceptionally nice but the glaze/donut tasted mildly chalky lke they weren’t made from fresh oi. The boston crème definitely tastes like there’s something flavoring the oil they cook the donuts in. I’m not a fan.

My favorite:

I wasn’t impressed with this donut shop.

Everett Fall and Home Show After and Book Haul!!

20161002_1everetthomeshow-3 20161002_1everetthomeshow-4

The Everett Fall and Home Show was huge! It took place at the Xfinity arena in Everett and there were quite a number of vendors, but only a few books and authors. I went with my new group – the Writer’s Coop of the Pacific Northwest. Shout out to the group and especially Matthew Buza (check out his book here) for putting together a fantastically well organized and beautifully professional event. Check out these awesome pictures!
