Nano November: Halloween and other Costumed Parties

Remember all my costumes from 2015?

Zombie Waldo made an appearance with a second zombie Waldo this year for Thrill the World in Redmond, WA on Saturday the 28th! This time, with two of us – we took home second place.

We had a few zombie cocktails! Marriot had a fun cocktail with dyed sugar and skull candies, but my favorite tasting cocktail was from BJ’s – the Beetlejuice (like a Tokyo tea). Thanks to Pecado Bueno for the excellent chicken tacos we got (free) with the Thrill the World coupons. See the official video Here.

One of my dance studios had a party Friday October 27th and I went with my sister. I had on two costumes. Do you know who I am?

The final celebrations took place on Halloween! I dressed up as a lion with my sister and we visited some of our old childhood homes as trick or treaters.

As a National Novel Writing Participant, Halloween has become even more of an event for me as at the end of the night kickoff begins. I, however, was asleep by 11pm

A few final November statistics for you!

  • There are 19 business days in November which equals 152 total working hours in an average 9-5 job. I worked 213.5 hours in November between my two jobs (and that’s 26.2 8-hour days!)
  • I wrote 20 days out of the month
  • I read 3 books (Krampus audiobook, Beauty and the Bridesmaid eBook, and Vegan Teenage Zombie Huntress print book). I’m still in the middle of reading Ishmael print book, The Seeker’s Keys Ebook, and Second Glance audiobook)
  • I had 5 events, 4 were author-related sales events (Small Business Saturday with the Neverending Bookshop, Oddmall in Everett which was 2 days, Bard & Starlet with FreeValley Publishing, and a one day popup Oddmall show)
  • I went to 10 write-ins

NaNo November 16: Week Three Update – Still Behind, Still Writing

This time last year I was already a winner of NaNoWriMo. I had it together. I had time. I had plot. I had motivation. I had friends. I have a lot of those this year, but I lack some essentials: like time and good plot to work with. At this point in my novel (at 30,500) my characters are saying anything that comes to mind and they are meandering all over the place! I’m consistently 5k or more behind but I have hopes of finishing strong over the Holidays and my first weekend that isn’t jam-packed with events.

Carry on my writers! Whether win or lose, at least you will be focusing on writing!

I’m also attempting to revise a short story for an anthology, getting one to two short stories together for a December 1 deadline, and keeping the rest of my life together!

Happy Turkey day in advance!

NaNo November: Week One Update – I don’t have time for this…

What a week this has been. I have, in no particular order:

  • Spilled milk all over my dress pants and cried
  • Worn a shirt inside out for half the day
  • Worked 60 hours
  • Backstaged a local show (Wednesday/Friday rehearsal and Saturday performance)
  • Stayed up past midnight for Hallonanoween in my new onesie pajamas
  • Written over 12k words in my Nano novel
  • Worked every day and woke up early every day
  • Spent approximately 1o hours in traffic
  • Went to 3 write ins (opening, Issy writers, St. James, and SnoValley Coffee)
  • Lost 2 lbs
  • Lost it at a Costco
  • Gotten a flat tire
  • Had too much caffeine
  • Cursed like a sailor
  • Got behind and caught up
  • Felt like a failure
  • Felt like a success
  • Was happy
  • Was sad
  • Was frustrated
  • Hopeful that next week will be less insane

NaNo November: Why I Won’t Win NaNoWriMo This Year

Or will I?

What are your excuses for not making time to write/winning?

Here’s my list:

  1. I have two jobs and one is in retail so I’m working 50-60 hours/week
  2. I lose a lot of time driving because Seattle area traffic = black hole of time suck
  3. I have 4 major events in November (Belles of the Ball, a Tuesday all day sales event, Oddmall one weekend, and Bard & Starlett)

Here’s why I WILL win:

  1. I’m extremely stubborn
  2. I like a challenge
  3. I have a schedule for my For the Love of Donuts series
  4. I like to write
  5. I actually have an outline for my NaNo novel

And finally, why I love NaNoWriMo:

  1. I’m writing
  2. I get to meet other writers
  3. Write-ins are hecka awesome!
  4. Novel bragging rights
  5. I’m being highly productive
  6. It helps me finish/start/work on my writing
  7. I go to new places

Not to forget a list about my upcoming NaNo manuscript:

  1. It’s a young adult novel
  2. It’s the third book in the For the Love of Donut books
  3. Nichole and Vanessa are in it
  4. There will be donuts
  5. There will be themes of friendship
  6. It will be set in Sarasota
  7. I’m super excited to write it!

Though I spent the most time writing on Sundays, this was not my most productive day.

**Fun facts on location: I went to 22 different locations to write, not including work or home. I went to the Neverending Bookstore 5 times, St. James 3 times, Verne & Wells 2 times, Issaquah Panera once, the Fall City Roadhouse 2 times, the AFK in Renton once, Bellevue Top Pot once, Costco once, CountrySide Donut House once, Daddy’s Donuts once, Factory Donuts once, North Bend Bar and Grill once, Spinderella once, and the Spotted Cow Once.

The Optimist Sees the Donut (For the Love of Donuts Book 2) & The Pessimist Sees the Hole (For the Love of Donuts Book 2)

Genre: Young Adult

Synopsis

Their friendship has been the one unbreakable thing, the one certainty in their lives, but Nichole Adams and Vanessa Smith are developing into their own persons and their individual life dramas distract them from each other.

Vanessa has never had many friends in her life and even though she wanted to stay friends with Nichole, she met new people in college and is moving on. She has school, she has social activities, and a new group of friends even though she can’t seem to find the right guy.

Nichole is jealous of Vanessa’s ease of everything in the real world. Nessa has no trouble with jobs, money, school, or getting and going places. Nichole, on the other hand was preemptively kicked out of her mom’s house after graduating high school and has been floundering ever since. The only thing she has easy in her life is flirting and getting dates, or at least a guy that will let her crash at his house. Nichole doesn’t always have the best of luck with men.

Forever hopeful that things will change, Nichole still clings to the hope that Vanessa will come back to their friendship and be the best friend from high school that Nichole misses. When guy after guy doesn’t work out for her, Vanessa changes more and more of her personality to attract the right guy, drifting farther and farther from who she really is. Something’s gotta give and this story of how friendships get off track, lies become reality, and bad luck tails bad choices will bring you in and around the little town of Sarasota, Florida that you grew to love in book one of the series – Donuts in an Empty Field.

Foodie Fridays: Nano Win Reward – Daddy’s Donuts Kenmore “one of everything”

Nano Stats coming Monday – but I decided to reward myself with an immediate donut foray for accomplishing all my goals in November for NaNoWriMo and a challenge/reward to come in 2016 (stay tuned for what it is on Monday).

20151204 Daddys Donuts Nano reward_one of everything (2)

My first reward for finishing both first drafts of my For the Love of Donuts Book 2’s was to buy “one of everything” from my new favorite donut vendor and local business Daddy’s Donuts in Kenmore.

I chose today as the big day and headed over when they open (8AM) but had to wait for their new machine to be setup, and Daddy himself (Eduardo) gave me a complementary mocha (how nice!) to enjoy while I waited.

About my series, For the Love of Donuts, and the two books I wrote first drafts of this November:

The Optimist Sees the Donut (For the Love of Donuts Book 2) & The Pessimist Sees the Hole (For the Love of Donuts Book 2)

Genre: Young Adult

Their friendship has been the one unbreakable thing, the one certainty in their lives, but Nichole Adams and Vanessa Smith are developing into their own persons and their individual life dramas distract them from each other.
